Volunteer FAQs

What are the benefits of volunteering?

In addition to free training and gear, Westville Fire Department offers a fun and supportive atmosphere to learn in. As a volunteer, you have access to:

    • A state-of-the-art command center.
    • A newly renovated bunk room that can sleep 15 volunteers.
    • A rec room with a large flat screen TV and seating area.
    • A full kitchen and dining room.
    • A fully equipped gym.

Is there an age requirement?

We offer a junior firefighting program for teens ages 14 through 17. To be a firefighter or firefighter/EMT, you must be 18 or older. Plus, no prior experience is necessary. We will train you!

How much time will I spend volunteering?

As much time as you can give. We know volunteers can’t answer every call, but the more volunteers we have, the faster we can get to the scene and help. In emergencies, every second counts.

What kind of apparatus does Westville use?

We are equipped with ladder, engine and rescue trucks, utility and operation vehicles, a fire boat, a small marine unit and a mobile command center. Volunteers take pride in our fleet and keep them in immaculate condition.

How do I sign up or contact the fire department?

Fill out an inquiry form on the Join Us page. Your information will be sent to our recruitment committee who will contact you shortly and invite you to tour our station.
